NEDFi extends support to 50 TB patients in West Garo Hills

Tura, Aug 15: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) extended nutritional support to 50 tuberculosis (TB) patients from the West Garo Hills district on Wednesday.

This initiative is part of NEDFi’s efforts to contribute to the well-being of TB patients, recognizing the importance of proper nutrition in their recovery process.

The distributed support packages include 6 kg of rice, 3 kg of lentils, and 2 liters of mustard oil. These packages are scheduled to be distributed every two months to patients at the Tura TB Hospital.

This initiative marks the maiden effort by the NEDFi to provide nutritional support to TB patients. NEDFi has committed to offering six months of nutritional aid to the patients.

This program is part of NEDFi’s broader plan to extend its support across all eight northeastern states, with the aim of assisting 100 TB patients in each state.

In Meghalaya, NEDFi has selected two districts for this programme – West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.

The District TB Hospital is working hard to declare West Garo Hills a TB-free district by 2025, in line with the target set by the Central government under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

The programme saw the presence of key officials, including Dr Riksilchi M Sangma, District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) In-charge, West Garo Hills; Saiedul Hussain, Deputy General Manager of NEDFi, Guwahati; and Dr Suparna Roy Hajong, Additional District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), Tura, alongside the hospital staff.
