Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in South West Garo Hills to begin June 30

Ampati, June 26: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in South West Garo Hills on June 30, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) set to undertake house-to-house verification to update the district’s electoral database ahead of the qualifying date of October 1, 2026.

According to the District Election Officer (DEO), the month-long exercise, to be conducted under the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll while removing ineligible entries. During the verification drive, BLOs will distribute Enumeration Forms to every registered elector, who must fill up and return one copy. An online facility for submission of the forms will also be available.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, while claims and objections can be filed until September 4. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7 after all claims and objections are disposed of.

To facilitate the revision, electoral rolls from the last Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2005 have been uploaded on the South West Garo Hills district website. Electors have been advised to verify their Assembly Constituency, Part Number and Serial Number from the 2005 rolls. Those whose names are not found in the 2005 roll but whose parents’ names appear in it should mention their parents’ details in the Enumeration Form. No supporting documents are required to be submitted with the form.

The Election Commission has also initiated the rationalisation of polling stations by reducing the maximum number of electors per polling station from 1,500 to 1,200 to improve voter convenience.

The DEO informed that regular meetings would be held with recognised political parties to ensure smooth implementation of the revision exercise. The first meeting is scheduled for next week to brief political parties on the legal provisions and procedures governing the process.

Appealing for public cooperation, the DEO urged all eligible electors to extend full support to Booth Level Officers during the house-to-house verification and actively participate in the revision to help maintain an accurate and error-free electoral roll.
