Shillong, July 8: The Conrad K Sangma-led government will always stand to protect the Christian community and will continue to listen to concerns raised by the people, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Wednesday.
He was referring to the Chief Minister’s recent visit to Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with church elders to raise concerns over Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) amendment affecting religious institutions in the state.
“Under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma, we are always there to protect our own people, especially when they face issues related to churches and the Christian people of the state,” he said.
“We are here to protect and to listen to the voices and requests from our people, and he has done it,” he added.
Mentioning that the Chief Minister secured an appointment with Shah to ensure their concerns were heard directly at the central level, he said, “The Union Home Minister gave time to our Chief Minister. Under his leadership, he took all the church elders and they met Amit Shah ji to place their request regarding FCRA.”
Dhar further stated that the government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of the Christian community both in Meghalaya and across the country.
“The state government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma is always there to protect our Christian community, not only in the state of Meghalaya but also in the country as a whole. People always look up to our Chief Minister and we are proud to say that,” he said.
The Deputy CM also expressed appreciation to the Centre for meeting the delegation.
