Shillong to host national conference on governance reforms

Shillong, July 12: India’s top policymakers and administrators will be attending a two-day national conference on July 13 and 14 in Shillong.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will inaugurate the “NextGen Administrative & e-Gov Reforms”, with addresses also expected from DARPG Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma and Meghalaya Chief Secretary Shakil P Ahammed.

More than 300 senior officers from the Centre and States, District Collectors, domain experts, academics, and governance practitioners are slated to attend.

The discussions will center on how technology and innovative administration can make public service delivery faster, more transparent, and more responsive.

The conference will open with Meghalaya presenting its own citizen-centric reforms and best practices, followed by showcases of Prime Minister’s Award-winning initiatives from 2023 and 2024 that delivered measurable results in holistic district development, education, rural livelihoods and the Aspirational Districts Programme.

A dedicated segment will highlight the winners of the National Awards for e-Governance 2026, featuring digital projects from ministries, state governments, urban local bodies and public institutions.

These will cover emerging applications in urban governance, healthcare, digital banking, pilgrimage management, Panchayati Raj, consumer protection and cyber security, with an emphasis on models that can be scaled nationally.

Given the venue, special attention will be given to the North Eastern Region.

Sessions will spotlight transformative work led by the Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council in areas like bamboo and agarwood value chains, tourism, regional infrastructure and project monitoring.

Another session will present DARPG-supported collaborative initiatives from Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, focusing on technology-enabled service delivery, digital platforms, grievance redressal and public safety systems built to strengthen governance in the region.

The overall objective, organizers said, is to create a national forum for sharing proven governance practices, encouraging inter-state collaboration, and accelerating the adoption of next-generation reforms. By bringing together policymakers, technologists and practitioners, the conference aims to push forward digital transformation and build a public administration that is more efficient, accountable and citizen-focused.

The event is organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances along with the Government of Meghalaya.
