Shillong, July 13: Associate Professor Dr Snehadrinarayan Khatua from the Department of Chemistry, North-Eastern Hill University, has been named a recipient of the Chemical Research Society of India Bronze Medal for 2027.
The CRSI Bronze Medal, instituted in 1999, is among India’s top honors for young chemical scientists. It recognizes original research that has made a significant impact in the field.
Dr. Khatua was selected for his work in inorganic and coordination chemistry. His research focuses on designing transition-metal complexes used in luminescent materials, chemical sensors, and bioimaging applications.
A Ph.D. alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, 2007, Dr. Khatua has an extensive international research profile. He was a BK21 Fellow at KAIST, South Korea, and also held the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at Universität Siegen, Germany, where he worked with renowned supramolecular chemist Prof. Michael Schmittel.
Since joining NEHU, he has built an active research program in inorganic photochemistry. His work includes 73 research papers in international journals and 3 patents filed in South Korea.
Beyond research, Dr. Khatua mentors Ph.D. and PG students, speaks regularly at national and international conferences, and currently serves as NEHU’s University SWAYAM Coordinator.
The CRSI recognition is being seen as a boost for scientific research in the Northeast.
“This national honor reflects the growing research strength at NEHU and highlights the university’s commitment to excellence in science,” a university statement said.
The medal will be conferred by the Chemical Research Society of India in 2027.
