Shillong, July 26: The body of a person, who went missing in Wahniangleng river near Phra Mer, Mylliem four days ago, was recovered by rescue personnel on Sunday.
“The body was pulled out at around 7:10 AM on July 26,” State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said in a statement.
During the search operations launched on July 22, SDRF along with Mawngap Police personnel and local residents scoured the gorges and riverbanks.
After four days of sustained operation, local residents spotted the body in a narrow, difficult-to-access part of the river on Saturday.
SDRF personnel attempted a recovery but called it off due to strong water currents and unsafe conditions.
The team resumed work at first light on Sunday and successfully retrieved the body.
It was later handed over to Mawngap Police for post-recovery legal procedures.
