NPP brought an end to political instability: Dy CM

Shillong, July 28: The NPP is the most stable political party in Meghalaya, which has not witnessed any political infighting for power in past 8 years of NPP-led government, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Tuesday.

“For more than 8 years we have ruled Meghalaya. We have never fought over the Chief Minister’s chair, never fought over Deputy CM, never fought over MP or President posts because we are busy working,” Dhar said while campaigning for Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Dr DRL Nonglait at Umdihar, Umsning in Ri-Bhoi.

Reminding frequent toppling of governments due to intense political infighting, he said, “Remember, under other political parties, the CM was changed every 7 months. At most every 2 years. Today, we have the most stable government.”

Dhar asserted that the NPP prioritises work, and not rhetoric, saying, “The NPP is a party that doesn’t have time to sit and gossip in the market. We are busy working, busy staying up at night to deliver for the people. Which NPP leader has time to respond to petty talk?” he said.

He urged party workers and the public to avoid divisive language.

“Life is too short. We have nothing against anybody. Our job is to love one another. We are here to correct each other, not to call people thieves. If we leaders talk like that about our own people, where will our state go?”

Dhar described Dr DRL Nonglait as a humble and experienced leader who “has lived in villages and felt hardship” and will not forget the people if elected MP.

He appealed to voters in Umdihar, Umsning and across Ri Bhoi to support the NPP candidate, saying coordination between state and central leaders is crucial for bringing development.

“If the MP is in the opposition, we start at a minus. We need people from the same family, same group, at state and central level, so development comes,” Dhar said.

“If we fight among ourselves, we are the losers. We are not the winners.”
