State has 9,244 HIV+ves ** 60 pregnant women test positive
Shillong, Aug 14: Meghalaya has 9,244 people living with HIV, according to the HIV Estimation Report 2025, while 60 pregnant women tested positive for the virus between April and June this year, the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) said.
During the same period, 558 new HIV cases were detected among the general population.
The figures were released following the launch of the Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 at Lady Keane College on August 12.
The campaign is aimed at expanding HIV testing, treatment and awareness across the state.
As part of the drive, MACS is conducting more than 1,000 village meetings, 3,000 school sessions and 85 college sessions, besides 30 folk shows and flash mobs.
The campaign also includes door-to-door outreach covering 15,000 households.
MACS has further set up 12 hospital camps and 10 pop-up awareness booths as part of the intensified campaign.
