One held with over 1 kg of suspected cannabis in SWGH

Shillong, Aug 18: South West Garo Hills District police on Tuesday recovered 1.439 kg of suspected cannabis and detained one person during a naka checking operation at Jhunjhuni Tri-Junction. 

According to police, a team from Kalaichar Police Patrol Post intercepted a suspicious individual during routine checking and carried out a thorough search. 

The person has been identified as Abdul Zaher, 53, a resident of Jhagarchar, Kakripara, Mankachar. 

Police said the suspected cannabis was recovered from his possession.

He was subsequently taken into custody, and necessary legal action is being initiated under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.  

In a statement, Superintendent of Police Vikash Varma also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share information.

“We appeal to the public to remain vigilant and provide information to the nearest police station regarding any suspected drug-related activities,” Varma said.
