Shillong, Aug 25: The vandalised statues at RR Colony during the August 19 violence will be repaired, said Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday.
Shullai said the department will take up the restoration of the statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda, noting their immense contribution to nation-building.
Condemning the incident, he said protests must remain peaceful and violence has long-term negative impact on the state’s growth.
“We as a civilized society should ensure that any form of protest should be peaceful in nature as the impact of any damage incurred by violence has a long-standing negative effect on the growth and development of the state,” he said.
Expressing deep regret over the vandalism, he urged students and youth to learn from the teachings of the two national icons.
