Shillong, Sept 1: Normalcy has returned to Shillong and tourists have started coming back to the city after the August 19 violence, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said on Tuesday.
Baranwal said the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), deployed after the violence, have been withdrawn.
“Since talks are going on with the organisation and the organisation has also called off its agitation for now, I believe normalcy has returned. Tourists are also returning to the city and the district,” the DC said.
He said hotel bookings are picking up but are yet to reach the level seen before the incident.
“Bookings are returning, but I cannot say that we have recovered the same number of tourists as on August 18,” he added.
