‘Need an NPP MP in Delhi to complete state’s pending works’
Shillong, Sept 6: In a huge infrastructure push in West Khasi Hills region, the state government has sanctioned Rs 270 crore for Balat-Ranikor-Umpung-Weiloi road.
Announcing the crucial project, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “The road from Balat, Ranikor, Umpung to Weiloi is not in good condition. We have sanctioned Rs 270 crore for it and it will be made like the Nongstoin road.”
Dhar, also the NPP national vice president was campaigning for NPP’s Shillong Lok Sabha by-election candidate Dr DRL Nonglait at Maweit under Mawshynrut constituency.
Significantly, Dhar said the sanction proves the NPP government does not discriminate against constituencies represented by opposition members.
Dhar linked the infrastructure push to the need for an NPP MP in Parliament.
Pointing out that the MDA government is stable with 38 MLAs till 2028 and with the NDA government at the Centre, a victory for Dr Nonglait would ensure direct coordination between Shillong and Delhi.
“If you elect Dr Nonglait, he will go and complete the pending works of the state,” he said.
Describing Dr Nonglait as a qualified and experienced leader, Dhar said, “The party needs a person like him. As a leader, he has given valuable suggestions to the government.”
Dhar also highlighted that the Nongstoin-Maweit road was taken up on priority after the NPP formed the government, with around Rs 170 crore sanctioned in two phases.
“You are fortunate to have Bah Gigur. After we formed the government, I pushed for the Nongstoin-Maweit road. We got Rs 103 crore in the first phase for 22 km and another Rs 60 crore has been sanctioned and work is underway,” he said.
