Traffic restrictions in Shillong for Vice President’s 2-day visit

Shillong, Sept 6: In preparation for the Vice President of India’s visit to Shillong, traffic restrictions have been put in place for September 7 and 8, with the police seeking cooperation from commuters to avoid congestion.

The SP Traffic (East Khasi Hills) Dr Hari Prasanth MR in a statement said the VVIP convoy movement will be facilitated along the Umiam-Police Bazaar corridor.

Traffic may be slowed on the route: Umiam – Mawlai Mawiong – Golfinks – CRPF Junction – Polo – 4th Furlong – IGP – Kachari – Police Bazaar.

Commuters have been urged to plan in advance, allow additional time and extend.

Emergency services including ambulances and fire tenders will get priority passage during the movement, the police said.

Inconvenience caused is highly regretted, the SP added.
