Meghalaya panel seeks public views on proposed Shree Cement plant

Shillong, Sept 15: A fact-finding committee set up by the Meghalaya Government has invited the public, individuals and organisations to submit their views on the proposed Shree Cement plant in East Jaintia Hills.

The committee was formed through a government notification on September 8, 2026, following a government direction issued on September 3.

The committee is headed by C.V.D. Diengdoh, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya.

It will look into the circumstances surrounding the disruption of a public hearing scheduled for July 31, 2026, in East Jaintia Hills.

The hearing had been organised by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.

The committee will also examine the possible environmental, social, legal and criminal implications of setting up the proposed cement plant in the district.

It will then submit a comprehensive fact-finding report to the government.

As part of its inquiry, the committee may consult and meet different stakeholders.

Members of the public and other interested persons can submit their representations in hard or soft copy, along with their contact details, by September 29, 2026.

Submissions can be made at Room No. 320, Meghalaya Secretariat, or sent by email to megfactfindingcommittee@gmail.com.

Those who wish to appear before the committee and give their statements may also do so. The dates for such hearings will be announced later.
