Shillong, Sept 15: Farmers in Meghalaya have sought translation of the Draft Agriculture Policy into local languages, saying the move would enable farmers in remote areas to understand the policy and give valuable feedback.
The Hill Farmers Union (Central Body) has written to Agriculture Director S. Rani requesting the department to publish the draft policy in Khasi and Garo, besides English.
“We are happy to see that the Draft Agriculture Policy has been published in the public domain. However, we would like to suggest that it be also published in Khasi and Garo languages so that the farming community residing in different remote areas can read, understand, and if necessary, also give their valuable suggestions,” the Union said in its letter.
The union also expressed confidence that the department would consider it in the interest of farmers.
