Shillong, Sept 16: The Cabinet has approved the retention of seven retired officials as consultants and advisors in different government agencies and externally aided projects.
After chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the decision involved four agendas relating to extension of service.
He said all the officials are working on different missions and externally aided projects.
Listing the engagements, he said retired PWD Superintendent K Diengdoh will continue as PMGSY consultant under MSRRDA, retired IAS officer G Kharmawphlang as Executive Director (Technical) under MBMA, retired Chief Engineer B Marak as Advisor in the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project, M Kharbani as General Manager in MBMA, A S Suting as Assistant Project Director in MBDA, retired Director of Agriculture D Lamar as Advisor in MBMA and Aiban Swer as Additional Director in MBMA.
Sangma stressed that these engagements are outside the regular promotion structure.
“These are not government posts where we are extending their service and blocking promotion possibilities for junior officers. These are externally aided projects where they are separately engaged as consultants and advisors,” he said, adding that such engagements require Cabinet nod.
He added that the posts are independent and funded by externally aided projects and do not create vacancies in the government setup.
