Two held in Shillong with 40 grams of heroin

Shillong, Sept 21: Two persons were arrested at Pynthorumkhrah in Shillong during an operation conducted by the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on Monday.

Police seized 40.12 grams of heroin, worth around Rs 7 lakh, and arrested the duo.

“Acting on the inputs, ANTF deployed personnel at strategic locations. During the operation, a vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-AD-1301 was intercepted at Pynthorumkhrah,” ANTF Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar said in a statement.

He said the two occupants of the vehicle were identified as Jamir Hussain Laskar, son of late Makabul Ali Laskar of Pangram, Cachar, Assam, and Joy Ryntathiang, son of late D Chyne of Umkdait, Nongmensong, Shillong.

“Upon search as per established legal procedures, four soap boxes containing suspected heroin were recovered from the vehicle. On testing, the substance was confirmed as heroin, with a net weight of 40.12 grams, valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh in the illicit market,” the SP said.

The contraband was seized and both accused were arrested after observing all mandatory legal formalities under the NDPS Act, 1985, he said.

Kumar further said that an investigation was underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband and identify other associates of the trafficking network.

“This successful operation reflects the unwavering commitment of State ANTF and Meghalaya Police to disrupting narcotics supply chains and dismantling organised drug-trafficking networks operating in and through the State,” the SP added.
