Shillong, Oct 23: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the state government to follow up on recruitment-related concerns at NEIGRIHMS and urged the Social Welfare Department to take action on complaints against the Director of CRCSRE, Shillong.
In a reminder letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday, KSU said it had suspended its indefinite sit-in at NEIGRIHMS in 2025, following the government’s assurance that it would be taken up with the Centre.
The union’s demands include a revision of the male-to-female nursing ratio, a review of reservation provisions for indigenous tribal communities and the conduct of recruitment examinations by NEIGRIHMS.
The protest was suspended following the intervention of a government delegation with assurance that a meeting would be arranged with the Union Health Minister to discuss the concerns. However, the KSU said the meeting had not taken place despite the issue being raised during meetings with the government on several occasions.
The student body has now urged the government to arrange an early meeting with the Union Health Minister.
Demand for action on CRCSRE Director row
Meanwhile, KSU’s Malki Circle also gave the Social Welfare Department a final seven-day notice to act on complaints concerning the Director of CRCSRE, Shillong.
In a letter to the Commissioner and Secretary of the department, the union said there had been little improvement despite its earlier complaints. KSU also raised concerns about the welfare of staff and persons with disabilities.
The union has asked the department to provide a written reply explaining what action has been taken along with the current status of the matter. It has also sought a detailed action taken report listing the steps taken and the results achieved.
KSU also asked the department to respond within seven days of receiving the letter.
