Shillong, Oct 27: The state government has decided to purchase additional paddy fields inside the proposed Knowledge City at Mawkhanu, New Shillong.
The land parcels of over 2.8 lakh square feet to be procured with Rs 13.78 crore are small stretches lying in between the large chunk of land already acquired by the government.
Clearance for the proposal was given at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday.
“We have purchased a large chunk of land in Mawkhanu area, but there are a few paddy field stretches which come in between,” MDA spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said underlining the need for acquiring the land.
He said the scattered patches would hamper proper utilisation of the Knowledge City land.
“It will really affect the use of land, so the Cabinet has decided to purchase this plot of land,” he added.
The total area is 2,81,000 square feet and the rate is Rs 490 per square feet, the same as earlier purchases, he said.
“The total amount comes to Rs 13.78 crore,” he added.
