Shillong, Oct 27: Revised cost for nine road projects under the World Bank-assisted Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) has been approved by the state cabinet on Tuesday.
The projects have seen cost escalation of over 25 per cent.
The proposal for revision of cost was cleared at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday.
Any project whose cost escalation crosses 25 per cent requires Cabinet approval, Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla informed after the cabinet meeting.
Explaining the reasons for the escalation, he said, “Most of the cost revision is caused due to escalation of rates and due to additional works and also because of the GST change.”
“While we sanctioned these roads, GST rate was 12%, but now it is 18%. So because of all those things, there was cost escalation in these nine roads,” he added.
