Addl 90 cr boosts NH-6 repair work

Shillong, Dec 31: The ongoing repair of national highway – 6 up to Malidor in East Jaintia Hills has gained momentum with the allocation of additional ₹90 crore for critical infrastructure improvements.

The work includes construction of bridges, retaining walls, and other essential works previously excluded from the project.

A tender for these upgrades will be floated soon, ensuring the comprehensive rehabilitation of the highway.

Repair and construction activities along NH-6 extending up to Malidor are in progress as planned and are expected to be completed by March 2025, said Santa Mary Shylla, MLA of Sutnga-Saipung constituency.

The repair work has already advanced to Sonapur area and the construction is steadily moving towards Malidor.

To expedite the process, authorities had imposed a 10-day road closure, allowing for more efficient execution of repairs.

The additional funding, secured through the upcoming tender, is set to accelerate the pace of work on critical infrastructure components, ensuring the long-term safety and usability of the highway.
