ADGBR (East) reviews restoration work in landslide-hit North Sikkim

Gangtok, April 11: The Additional Director General Border Roads (East), Jitendra Prasad, on Saturday reviewed ongoing restoration efforts in the landslide-affected Taramchu area of North Sikkim, directing officials to expedite work for early reopening of the route.

During his visit to the strategically important and fragile region, Prasad assessed the ground situation and interacted with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel deployed at the site. He issued clear instructions to accelerate fresh works, underlining the urgency of restoring road connectivity, which serves as a critical lifeline in the area.

“Roads in such remote and sensitive areas are not merely infrastructure but are vital for survival, development and maintaining the crucial link between border communities and the rest of the nation,” he said during the inspection.

He carried out a detailed review of the progress of restoration works and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthening connectivity in challenging terrains.

The visit also served as a morale booster for personnel working under difficult conditions, reaffirming BRO’s ethos of leading from the front and its continued focus on infrastructure development in border areas.

The landslide at Taramchu has disrupted connectivity in parts of North Sikkim, prompting urgent restoration efforts by BRO teams.
