Shillong, Sept 30: A toll gate staff member in Ri Bhoi helped police apprehend a suspected drug peddler. Police said further investigation is underway.
The accused, identified as David Marwein, resident of Wahumlalong under Mairang police station in Eastern West Khasi Hills was riding a scooty (ML 05 AH 7002) when he was intercepted around 12:50 pm on September 29 on suspicion of carrying contraband.
Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi, Giri Prasad M, said in a statement that, on receiving the information, a gazetted officer was deputed and independent witnesses were arranged as per procedure under the NDPS Act.
During the search, one soap box containing 9.77 grams of suspected heroin was recovered and seized, the SP said, adding that a case has been registered at Byrnihat police station.
