Govt mulls legal action against VPP MDC

Admin assures action on any written complaint about recruitment

Shillong, Sept 30: The state government has maintained that law will take its own course against VPP MDC Dr Juristman Iawphniaw, who allegedly disrupted an interview of staff nurses for MCH Hospital, Nongstoin.

“Whether MLA, MDC or MP, as far as you are a citizen of the state or citizen of India, you are guided by law. So law will take its own course,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong when asked about any action against the Nongstoin MDC.

Mentioning that nobody has any right to disrupt an ongoing interview, Tynsong said, “When you make an allegation, please don’t disrupt any ongoing interview. Let the interview go on.”

The Deputy Chief Minister said police have been investigating the case and will decide on the legal action soon.

On allegations of irregularities in the recruitment, he said, “From day one we are totally against manipulation in the recruitment process.”

Legal action against MDC

West Khasi Hills district administration has declared that legal action would be taken against the MDC for unauthorised entry and disruption of the interview process.

Confirming this, Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak said, “The District Administration condemns this unauthorised entry and disruption of an official selection process… The District Administration is examining the incident and will take appropriate action in accordance with law.”

The DC said on September 29, while the interview was in progress in the Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the Member of District Council (MDC), Nongstoin belonging to the VPP, entered the interview hall without prior intimation or permission.

“The MDC entered the interview hall without prior intimation or permission and raised his voice at the members of the interview board in the presence of the candidates. The proceedings were interrupted, causing distress to the candidates,” the release said.

The MDC was then escorted to the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner where he made certain verbal allegations about the recruitment process, some of which have also been reported in sections of the media.

The administration maintained that the recruitment is being conducted as per prescribed procedure.

The written examination was held at Nongstoin College on September 21, and 60 candidates were shortlisted for personal interview on September 29 and 30 before a duly constituted interview board.

Stating that no one can interfere with an official selection process, the DC said, “No individual, whatever position he or she holds, is permitted to enter a recruitment venue without authorisation or obstruct officials in the discharge of their duties. Such conduct directly affects candidates who have prepared in good faith.”

The administration also made it clear that any concern about the recruitment should be submitted in writing with specific details and supporting evidence to the competent authority.

“Every such complaint will be examined, and action will be taken against anyone found involved, in accordance with law,” the DC said.

The DC informed that selection is strictly based on merit through written examination and personal interview, and no payment is required at any stage.

Candidates were cautioned not to fall prey to touts or anyone claiming ability to influence selection.
