Assembly to be completed in time: Speaker

Shillong, May 20: Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma has expressed satisfaction over the progress of work in the under-construction Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang on the outskirts of the city.

“The progress of work was found to be satisfactory,” the Speaker said after a review of the work on Wednesday.

He also expressed confidence that construction of the new Assembly building would be completed within the stipulated time frame.

The review meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, Project Management Consultant (PMC), and officials from Public Works Department (PWD), IT Cell, and National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Meanwhile, reacting to the recent viral video about the roof of the new Assembly building, the Speaker said the matter had been blown out of proportion and described the development as “unfortunate”.

While open to feedback, the Speaker cautioned against misinformation.

He urged members of the public to refrain from sharing or posting unverified content that may create misconceptions and bring disrepute to the institution of the Legislative Assembly.
