Awareness on RTI act held

Shillong, Oct 16: Government employees of all departments in West Garo Hills attended a one-day sensitisation programme on Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura on Tuesday. 

Organised by the District Administration, West Garo Hills Tura, the event aims to sensitise the staff to the rules and procedures with regard to the citizens’ right to access information and also facilitate the Government to effectively implement the RTI Act.

During the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, S R Marak highlighted the role and duties of citizens in Right to Information Act, 2005 including case studies  and sharing with special reference to roles and duties of appellate authorities under the RTI Act, 2005. He further explained in detail the practical procedures for filing an RTI and working of the appellate authority.

A detailed explanation and demonstration of the RTI website was provided by the District Information Officer, in-charge NIC, West Garo Hills, Tura Elliber A Marak for better understanding of the employees and effective discharge of their duties.

It may be mentioned that under the provisions of RTI Act, any citizen of India may request information from a “public authority” that is a body of the government or state which is required to reply expeditiously or within 30 days.
