Shillong, Mar 20: Concerned over forest fire leading to disaster during the current dry and windy weather conditions, East Khasi Hills district administration has prohibited deliberate burning of fires and unattended burning of forests in the district.
The district administration expressed concern that such fires may have the potential to cause wild/forest fires and damages to environment, property and loss of lives.
The violators shall be prosecuted under Section 233 of the BNS, stated district magistrate RM Kurbah.
The order was issued following complaints of deliberate burning of forests and rampant unattended burning of forests causing wildfires in and around the district.
According to the DM, the order was issued to ensure protection of the environment from degradation and to prevent further damage to our precious forest ecosystem as well as ensure safety of life and property.
