Ban on illegal fish imports from Bangladesh

Shillong, Jan 14: The district administration of Eastern West Khasi Hills has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 BNSS, 2023, banning the transportation, storage, sale, or distribution of fish illegally imported from Bangladesh without valid documents.

The order also prohibits the use of vehicles, vessels, or boats in such activities and penalizes those assisting or facilitating individuals involved.

This move follows reports of illegal transportation of migrants and fish from Bangladesh through border routes, riverine channels, and market points, posing a threat to national security, public order, public health, and economic interests.

Violators will face prosecution under relevant laws, including Section 223 BNSS Act, 2023, BNS, Custom Act, Foreign Act, and Passport Act.
