BJP calls for steps to improve LPG supply

Shillong, March 27: The state BJP has urged the government to take urgent steps to improve LPG supply in order to provide succour to the consumers.

“It is our responsibility to talk to the state and Central authorities to ensure people do not face this kind of shortage of LPG, not only in Meghalaya but within the country as well,” state BJP leader AL Hek told reporters on Friday.

Hek said the state government had already taken up the issue with the Centre and was working with district administrations “to ensure people should not face any kind of shortage.”

“First we are surveying the present situation, but we will not wait for that kind of situation,” he said.

‘Sitting MLAs keen to join BJP’

Meanwhile, the senior BJP leader AL Hek claimed that several sitting and former MLAs are likely to join the party soon.

“There are so many sitting MLAs and ex-MLAs who are in offing to join the BJP, and I hope very soon it will be happening,” Hek said.

Asked about sitting MLAs joining ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Hek said BJP would continue to build its base in its own way.

On defections from the ruling party in Assam ahead of assembly elections, Hek said, “Every election you will see lots of Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram — that will keep on happening.”

“It’s not happening only in BJP. There are so many also from Congress and other parties joining the BJP,” he said.

Asked whether BJP would suffer any loss due to some leaders joining Congress or contesting as independents after being denied tickets, Hek said the churn cuts both ways.

Exuding confidence that the party would return to power in the neighbouring state for the third consecutive term, the former minister said, “I cannot say how many seats the BJP is winning, but the BJP government will continue in Assam.”

He noted party karyakartas and leaders were working “very hard to get absolute majority.”

But, he said, even if the BJP failed to breach the majority mark, it will still be ruling in the state once again.
