BJP releases first list of 17 candidates

Shillong, Jan 21: The BJP on Tuesday announced its first list of 17 candidates for the autonomous district councils (ADC) elections slated for February 21.

Of them, 14 candidates are from constituencies under Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and three from Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

This the biggest number of candidates fielded by BJP in the ADC elections, said the party’s state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna while addressing mediapersons.

“I am sure our participation will help as the party will be able to contribute in strengthening the foundation of the district councils. So that we are looking forward if people choose our candidates,” he added.

The second list of candidates will be released before January 27, he said.

Asked, Pohshna said the party has good chance of winning in some constituencies in Khasi and Jaintia region.

He also informed that the party will bring out a centralised manifesto in the coming days.

“We hope our candidates will carry forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed nation and how ADCs can be part of it. The manifesto will revolve around the party’s aim to strengthen the basics of the ADCs,” he said.

The 14 candidates for KHADC include Himanta Timung – Jirang, Manin Raja – Nongpoh, Hopingstone Marsharing – Mawhati, Brighstarfield Khongwir – Umsning, Councellor Mukhim – Mawkynrew, Elvisstar Kharbudon – Langkyrdem Laitkroh, Ebren Khongthah – Nongshken, Fairlock D Ryngksai – Nongthymmai, Kynsaibor Lyngdoh – Malki Laitumkhrah, Daniella Nonglait – Mawlai, Lewis Janong Sooting – Langrin, Dimandar Lyngdoh – Nongstoin, Dominic Wahlang – Rambrai Jyrngam and Roland Mawsor – Mawshynrut.

For JHADC, the candidates are – Heimonmitre Phawa – Jowai South, Manbha Lyngdoh – Muthlong Sohkympor, and Shanbor Rymbai – Musniang Rangad.
