Shillong, April 15: A 10-year-old girl was rescued by Border Security Force personnel after she suffered an electric shock at a construction site in South Garo Hills district on April 7.
The incident took place at around 11:30 am near the Rongra River when Nikhami N Marak, daughter of Lithon D Sangma of Rongra Bolgiske village, inadvertently came into contact with a live electric pole at a civil construction site.
Responding to a distress call, BSF troops from BOP Rongra immediately rushed to the spot.
“Displaying exceptional presence of mind, they immediately informed the Electricity Department to disconnect the power supply, preventing further risk,” a statement issued by the BSF said.
The injured girl was swiftly evacuated to Rongra Primary Health Centre for initial treatment.
“After first aid, she was referred for further treatment and subsequently shifted to Baghmara Government Hospital in a BSF ambulance, accompanied by a Nursing Assistant and her family members,” the statement added.
