Shillong, May 29: A delegation of Raid Mynsaw has urged the state government to ensure resumption of the inter-state boundary talks in respect of Langpih sector in West Khasi Hills district.

The delegation led by Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president KP Pangniang submitted a memorandum in this regard to chief minister Conrad K Sangma and chairman of the regional committee for West Khasi Hills, Paul Lyngdoh.

Pangniang, also a member of the regional committee, said a public meeting held at Langpih on April 19 unanimously resolved to urge the government to resume the talks on Langpih, one of the six remaining areas of difference between Meghalaya and Assam.

The meeting attended by headmen, local leaders, villagers and public representatives sought resolution of the dispute about Langpih during the second phase of border talks with Assam, he said.

Pangniang also underscored the need for the talks to be based on mutually agreed principles – historical perspective, ethnicity of local population, contiguity with boundary, perception of people living, and administrative convenience.

He mentioned that people of Langpih sector had expressed their gratitude to chief minister Conrad K Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma on their historic joint visit to Langpih on 16 November 2022.

“The historic visit by the chief ministers of both states had shown the spirit of seriousness and commitment of both the states to settle the long-pending dispute,” he added.
