CBI files chargesheet against AJRS ponzi scam mastermind Gopal Paul

Guwahati, Feb 7: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its final chargesheet before the Special CBI Court, Guwahati, against Gopal Paul, the mastermind behind the AJRS ponzi scam in Assam. The chargesheet was submitted within 90 days of his arrest, with Paul currently in judicial custody.

The case was originally registered at Dispur Police Station on August 12, 2024, against AJRS Marketing Pvt. Ltd., helmed by Director Gopal Paul. Following a request from the Assam government, the CBI took over the investigation on October 14, 2024.

CBI findings revealed that AJRS Marketing Pvt. Ltd. and its associated entities were engaged in illegal trading and investment activities without mandatory approvals from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Gopal Paul, in collusion with co-accused Biswanath Roy, Mridul Dutta, and others, orchestrated a Ponzi scheme, fraudulently collecting crores of rupees from unsuspecting investors.

The scam was executed through multiple shell companies, including AJRS Marketing Pvt. Ltd, AJRS Management Securities (OPC) Pvt. Ltd and GSPAUL Marketing LLP.

The three companies operated under misleading brand names such as AyurvedLife and AJRSTrading, falsely claiming to deal in Ayurvedic health care products like oils, creams, and aloe vera-based items.

However, investigations revealed that no actual business operations existed, and the firms were solely created to lure investors with promises of high fixed returns.

The AJRS Ponzi scam is part of a larger pattern of fraudulent trading apps and investment schemes targeting investors in Assam. The CBI continues to probe financial irregularities as authorities work to recover misappropriated funds and bring all culprits to justice.
