CEIR portal data: 5,914 mobile phones lost, 1,662 recovered

Shillong, Jan 6: There has been an increased reporting of loss or stealing of mobile phones in the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, leading to recovery of huge number of such mobile phones.

A total of 5,914 mobile handsets have been reported lost or stolen on CEIR portal in Meghalaya as of January 6.

Of these, 1,662 mobile handsets have so far been successfully traced and recovered.

It has reflected growing effectiveness of the system and enhanced coordination among stakeholders, according to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The CEIR portal enables citizens to report lost or stolen mobile handsets, assist in their tracking and recovery, and helps prevent the misuse of such devices, thereby enhancing public safety and security, it said.

“The CEIR portal allows citizens to block lost or stolen mobile phones, preventing misuse, track and recover devices once they reappear on any telecom networks and unblock recovered devices seamlessly through the same platform,” it added.
