Shillong, Oct 23: In a step towards ensuring speedy justice, the state police have filed chargesheet in the case of rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in record two weeks’ time.
The chargesheet has been filed against the accused Iainehskhem Kharsati (22) for his alleged involvement in the crime at Kalapangti village in Ri-Bhoi district.
“Investigation has been completed in 13 days’ time (and) as per our commitment (we have) filed chargesheet in the case within 2 weeks,” district police chief V Rathore said on Thursday.
The SP said the case was registered on October 10, after the recovery of the victim’s body on the previous evening.
The investigation was conducted by SI S Ryngksai, who is presently posted at Umiam police station.
The girl went missing around 11 am on October 9 after returning from school, and her body was discovered around 7:20 pm on the same day.
Experts from Meghalaya Forensic Crime Scene Unit (MFCSU) examined the site and collected evidence before the body was sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The accused had confessed to the crime, admitting that he sexually assaulted and then murdered the child, he said.
