Heated exchange of words in KHADC over ‘press freedom’

Shillong, Oct 23: The House of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has witnessed heated exchange of words between Leader of Opposition Titosstarwell Chyne and Executive Member Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin over “press freedom”.

Referring to a newspaper headline on the controversy around a KHADC order asking the traders to pay professional tax, Kharjahrin accused journalists of spreading misinformation and acting as mouthpieces for individuals.

However, Chyne countered saying that media’s reporting was not a subject matter to be brought up in the House.

He also accused Kharjahrin of attacking the press and attempting to gag them.

“How can you attack the press in the floor of the House?” he asked.

Kharjahrin, on the other hand, retorted that Chyne was trying to mislead the House.
