CM Conrad takes up state’s future in football with Minerva owner

Shillong, Aug 5: In yet another initiative to make Meghalaya a football powerhouse, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday held a discussion with Punjab-based Minerva Football Academy on youth development and the future of football in the state.

The premier residential football academy and club based in Mohali operates as a “School of Excellence” where professional football training is integrated with on-campus academics and living facilities.

During the meeting with the Academy’s owner Ranjit Bajaj, Sangma praised him for his contribution to Indian football, particularly in identifying and nurturing young talent.

“His passion for football and commitment to nurturing young talent is truly inspiring. It is especially encouraging to see boys from Meghalaya being part of the Minerva family,” the Chief Minister said.

Sangma said Bajaj’s enthusiasm for promoting football in Meghalaya aligns with the state government’s vision of empowering young people through sports.

“It is heartwarming to see his commitment to the growth of football in Meghalaya and to our mission of empowering youth through sports. I look forward to more such engagements,” he said.

The Chief Minister also wished Bajaj and the Minerva Football Academy continued success in developing the next generation of footballers.

The meeting comes as Meghalaya continues to invest heavily in sports infrastructure and grassroots football, with the state positioning itself as one of India’s emerging football hubs by creating greater opportunities for young players to compete at the national level.
