Coaching centres asked to register with Education Dept

Shillong, March 26: The State Government has ordered all private coaching centres to register with the Education department and form grievance redressal mechanisms for the students.

The government has already notified Meghalaya Registration of Private Coaching Centre Rules, 2026 in compliance a Supreme Court of India judgment issued in July last year.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills district administration has directed all private coaching centres operating in the district — both offline and online — to follow the directive and accordingly register with the Education department as per the notified rules.

Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah has issued the order following a government notification, making the registration mandatory.

“As per the order, the State Government has directed mandatory registration of all Private Coaching Centres and the adoption of student protection norms with effective grievance redressal mechanisms,” it noted.

“The notified rules provide for the registration and regulation of all Private Coaching Centres operating within the State…,” it added.

The DC while requesting all coaching centres in East Khasi Hills to register also asked concerned operators to ensure strict compliance of the government notification.
