Jowai, May 21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Wednesday, inaugurated the 1.13-km Hubert Rosario Road in Spein, Mookaswan, West Jaintia Hills, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.93 crore. The road serves as a vital link to the Hubert Acupressure Centre, boosting access to healthcare services in the region.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma emphasized the road’s significance beyond its cost, stating, “This project is priceless for the lives it impacts—those seeking healing and the dedicated sisters providing care.”

He highlighted the state’s infrastructure push, noting that over Rs. 4,000 crore in road projects have been sanctioned in the last seven years, compared to Rs. 659 crore from 1991 to 2018. Approximately 70% of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Meghalaya were completed during this period.

Sangma also underscored Meghalaya’s leadership in healthcare investment, with over Rs. 1,000 crore—8% of the state budget—allocated annually to the sector. The government is supporting state-run, church-run, and non-profit hospitals, with plans to include rural health centers like the Hubert Acupressure Centre in future infrastructure grants.
Additionally, he announced initiatives to integrate traditional healing practices with formal healthcare systems across the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar praised the Mookaswan community’s unity and the sisters’ healthcare contributions, expressing pride in the region’s progress.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of the Shillong Diocese, Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar of the Jowai Diocese, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Public Works Department officials, and local administration members.
