‘Deaths in dynamite blast’: MHRC asks Govt to submit report in 1 month

Shillong, Jan 6: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has sought a detailed inquiry report within a month regarding the death of two persons in an alleged dynamite explosion at Thangsko in East Khasi Hills district.

“The Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, to cause an effective enquiry and to submit a detailed inquiry report to the Commission in one month’s time,” MHRC secretary L Ch Marak said in a statement on Tuesday.

One Ashok Tamang is the only person whose death has been confirmed so far. He succumbed to his injuries on January 1 while undergoing treatment at Shillong Civil Hospital.

Sources further informed that Tamang was initially taken to Sutnga Primary Health Centre on December 23, before being referred to Shillong Civil Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

The identity of the second victim is yet to be ascertained.
