Shillong, Aug 14: Any delay in delivery of government online services within stipulated timeframe will now be appealed automatically without the applicant taking the trouble.
It was one of the three decisions taken by the state cabinet on Thursday to improve service delivery, investment and recruitment in the state.
The cabinet approved an automatic appeal system for online applications under the Meghalaya Right to Public Service Act, 2020, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said after the cabinet meeting.
“Once the specified timeframe is over for a particular service to be delivered to a citizen, and for whatever reason if it is not delivered, the particular citizen will not have to appeal. The appeal will happen automatically,” he said.
“This will ensure that this Act is further strengthened and the people get the service that they deserve on time,” he added.
Extension of industrial incentives
The cabinet also extended the registration period under the Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, 2024 by one year.
“That period has lapsed. Therefore, we are further extending it by one year to enable companies to come and invest and take benefit of the policy,” the CM said.
Age limit for ST candidates raised
In another decision, the government amended the Meghalaya Commerce and Industries Service Rules, 2026 to raise the upper age limit for Scheduled Tribe candidates from 27 to 32 years.
“As you know, the cabinet has decided to increase the limit to 32 for the Scheduled Tribes of the state. And that amendment had to be made in these rules,” Sangma said.
