Dhar confident of NPP victory in LS bypolls

Shillong, June 11: NPP national vice-president and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed confidence over the party’s victory in the upcoming bye-election to Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

“We are very confident of winning this time with the support of our people. I am very thankful to all units and different levels across constituencies. The NPP units have worked very hard. So, it is a very positive sign for the coming bye-election,” Dhar told reporters on Thursday.

To a query on the NPP not going for a woman candidate for the bye-election, Dhar defended the party’s selection process, saying, “For the NPP, we never decide from the top. We always listen to the views and suggestions from all units of the 36 constituencies.”

“They recommended Dr DRL Nonglait and we have to accept it,” he said.

Referring to reports of VPP supporters shifting allegiance to NPP, he said, “I have seen that. Especially in Jaintia Hills, they are down very much. Even in Khasi Hills, every day the numbers are decreasing across Khasi-Jaintia region as people are realising.”
