Shillong, Oct 9: Senior BJP leader AL Hek has taken strong objection to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s “wife-stealing” remark, saying such comments send a wrong message to the younger generation.
Responding to Dhar’s remark, the Pynthorumkhrah MLA said, “He has not directly indicated anything against me. He said ‘kam lok jong me’, he told it to those who were interviewing him.”
Dhar had on Thursday, while rubbishing Hek’s claim that many NPP MLAs are keen to join the BJP, said, “If you claim someone’s wife, how would you feel?”
Stating that a direct remark against him would have attracted different reaction, he said, “If he had told me directly, I know how to react also… But the statement which is given, it is completely about what we are teaching to the upcoming generation.”
“What are we teaching to our children, what are we teaching to our upcoming Gen Z? So we have to be very careful before we speak. Any language in a live interview, to give that kind of statement is really sending a wrong message to the upcoming generations,” he added.
