Shillong, May 1: The state government has decided to create a post of Director of Civil Defence in the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guard.
“We have decided to amend service rules to facilitate creation of the post of Director of Civil Defence, which is now being handled by Commandant General of Home Guards,” cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The decision was taken in order to upscale the performance of the department of Civil Defence and Home Guards, he said.
Joint directors, who have served for a period of not less than three years, shall be upgraded to the post of Director of Civil Defence, he said.
“This will also motivate officers, who have acquired and experience and knowledge during their long tenure of service in the department,” he added.
