Shillong, Feb 13: East Garo Hills district headquarters Williamnagar now has another landmark, a District Emporium, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday.
The District Emporium is envisioned as a hub for local industrial and handicraft products.

In his address, the Chief Minister said the facility would greatly benefit the youth, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), artisans, and families who rely on local production for their livelihood.
He elaborated on his government’s broader vision to transform Meghalaya into a 10-billion-dollar economy by strengthening local industries, entrepreneurship, and rural development.
Addressing the programme, local MLA and cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak said the District Emporium Williamnagar would not only promote local craftsmanship, but also provide tourists with an opportunity to purchase authentic mementos that reflect the culture and identity of the region.

He emphasized that the emporium will serve as a platform for local artisans to showcase and sell their products, thereby boosting the local economy.
He further remarked that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Meghalaya has witnessed steady progress.
East Garo Hills deputy commissioner RP Marak, superintendent of police Stephen Rynjah, and officials of District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC) were among present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to the DCIC trainees for presenting one of his late father PA Sangma’s favourite songs, “Nitoa A·chik A·song.”

He fondly shared the history of the song and spoke about how his father loved it deeply and even suggested changes to its lyrics.
Following the inauguration, a large number of visitors toured the emporium and purchased locally produced goods, marking a promising start for the new establishment.
