Double success by Garo Hills police against narcotic trade

Tura, Oct 19: Police in West Garo Hills have busted two gangs involved in narcotic smuggling and arrested multiple people during a special anti-narcotic drive conducted across the district in the last two days.

On Saturday morning, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force team of the district police (ANTF) received information that suspected drug peddlers identified as Ajay Debnath, Niranjan Chakraborty, and Suman Sen, were traveling by public bus from Garobadha towards Tura. The ANTF team with support from police personnel deployed at Araimile police station in Tura conducted a road check or naka at Upper Damalgre, on the outskirts of the town.

The three suspects were spotted inside a bus ML14A-1976 and during a search, 22 numbers of vials containing suspected heroin drugs weighing 2.1 grams were recovered from their possession.

On the same evening, another operation was conducted on the road from Dadenggre civil sub-division to Rongram, 15 kms from Tura. During the naka checking police intercepted and apprehended four suspected drug peddlers who were traveling in an Auto Rickshaw ML08G-7609. From their possession the police team seized 1008 narcotic SP capsules weighing 388.08 grams*, and 99 numbers of P. Neitra tablets weighed a total of 0.99 grams and suspected heroin weighed 0.61 grams.

The arrested men were identified as Prosojit Dalu, a resident of Nikrang Ading, Tura, Kriston A Sangma of Akonggre, Tura, Sengbath Ch Momin of Sepoy Colony, Tura and Sonu A Sangma of Nakham Bazar, Tura.
