Flood situation improves in Assam, over 25,000 people still affected

Guwahati, Jul 3: The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday, with the number of affected people dropping to over 25,000 across two districts, according to an official bulletin.

The daily flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said nearly 25,100 people remain affected in Dhemaji and Dibrugarh districts.

Dhemaji is the worst-hit district, with more than 21,000 people affected, followed by Dibrugarh, where nearly 4,000 people continue to reel under floodwaters.

On Wednesday, more than 48,000 people across four districts were affected by the floods.

The flood-related death toll in the state this year remained unchanged at one.

The ASDMA said four relief camps and relief distribution centres are being operated in the two affected districts, where 129 displaced people are currently taking shelter.

During the past 24 hours, the authorities distributed 82.26 quintals of rice, 15.2 quintals of dal, 4.56 quintals of salt and 294.9 litres of mustard oil among flood-affected people.

According to the bulletin, 52 villages remain inundated, while floods have damaged crops spread over 393.44 hectares across the state.

Floodwaters have also damaged embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure in several districts.

The ASDMA said more than 55,000 domestic animals and poultry have also been affected by the flooding across the state.(PTI)
