Shillong, April 28: The proposal of elevated road or flyover between Rilbong junction and Barik Point was dropped due to safety and security reasons, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.
The government has converted the proposal for flyover into a four-lane road on the stretch following advice from the defence authorities.
Admitting that the government had preferred a flyover, Tynsong said the proposal had to be revised following a discussion with the defence authorities, which suggested an alternative of four-lane road.
He said the decision was taken after consultations with multiple agencies.
Joint survey work has already begun for the four-lane road involving multiple agencies including defence authorities.
