Shillong, Sept 27: Shillong police on Friday arrested a 59-year-old man from Jharkhand for duping a Shillong-based businessman by claiming to be associated with the fast food chain KFC.
East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said a criminal case was registered at Rynjah police station on August 12, regarding a fraudulent investment scheme.
The complainant reported that an individual named Abhishek Kumar Yadav, who falsely claimed to be an assistant area manager at KFC, provided a purported investment plan/business plan worth Rs 19,27,000.
Believing the offer to be legitimate, the complainant paid the first instalment on June 14, 2024 and subsequent payments were made over the following weeks, with the last instalment paid on August 6, 2024.
It was only after a significant delay that the complainant discovered that Abhishek Kumar Yadav was not affiliated with KFC.
“…during the ongoing investigation, Ibrahim Ansari (59) was arrested from Senha village, Muslim Mohalla, Lohardaga District, Jharkhand by a police team from East Khasi Hills DEF,” Nongtnger said.
The investigation is still underway, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending additional suspects involved in this case, he added.
