Guwahati, July 26: Marking the 26th anniversary of India’s decisive victory in the Kargil War, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps and the Assam Rifles led a powerful wave of commemorative events across the Northeast, blending solemn tributes with stirring community participation. From motorbike rallies to memorial visits, the multi-state campaign honoured fallen heroes while igniting patriotic spirit across generations.

In Assam, a high-energy bike rally rolled out from Kakopathar to Doomdooma Town, with over 150 locals participating in a symbolic salute to Kargil’s martyrs. Schools across the state joined in, with interactive sessions held at Daisjan, Penri, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Lekhapani. A motivational film screening and a flag salutation ceremony at KV Lekhapani drew 17 teachers and 265 students, leaving them visibly moved.
The most emotional moment of the day came when Army personnel visited the home of Captain Jintu Gogoi in Golaghat. In a heartfelt exchange with his family, the soldiers paid homage to one of Assam’s most revered war heroes.

In Nagaland, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles led ceremonies from Kohima to Kiphire. At Rangapahar Military Station, the GOC of Spear Corps laid a wreath at the War Memorial in the presence of ex-servicemen. A grand event at Zakhama Military Station included wreath-laying at the Orchid War Memorial and emotional addresses by veterans.
In a deeply personal tribute, a motorcycle rally was held in honour of Captain N. Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), a native of Nerhema village. Wreaths were laid at his ancestral home. Simultaneously, at Medziphema, students from Nagaland University’s School of Agricultural Sciences participated in an educational and motivational tour linked to Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Across Manipur, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles amplified their efforts. In Modi and Chandel districts, a Veterans Meet drew over 175 participants, including soldiers from the Naga Regiment who had fought in Operation Vijay. These veterans were formally felicitated.
At Leimakhong’s Shantivan War Memorial, serving soldiers interacted with 18 ex-servicemen in a show of camaraderie and gratitude. In Senapati and Bishnupur districts, five Honorary Captains, two Honorary Lieutenants, Veer Naris, and the families of gallantry awardees were honoured.
At Tronglaobi’s L. Dhananjay Memorial English School, the Army paid tribute to five Kargil War heroes. In Imphal East’s Ngarumphung Village, a wreath-laying ceremony honoured Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, MVC (P). Thirty veterans and 120 students gathered in respect as the Indian Army Pipe Band played a ceremonial finale.

Throughout the Northeast, these tributes were more than ceremonial—they were deeply human. By engaging with students, honouring veterans, and visiting families of the fallen, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the legacy of the Kargil War.
More than just a remembrance of victory, these events stirred the soul of the region—instilling duty, pride, and the enduring message that the sacrifices of Kargil’s heroes are never forgotten.
